I had the incredible honor of traveling to Italy with some of my most cherished clients a couple of weeks ago. If you missed the first installment of Amalfi, you can read about it here. The next stop was Rome, where we seemingly traveled through time, culture, and, most deliciously, culinary treasures that would tantalize any traveler’s palate. Today, I’ll take you on a vicarious journey through some incredible moments we shared.
After leaving the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, our Roman adventure kicked off. We made a detour to the ancient city of Pompeii, a rare glimpse into ancient Roman life preserved in stunning detail after the catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. What followed was a sumptuous wine tasting and lunch in the shadow of Mt. Vesuvius before heading to Naples to catch a high-speed train.
The ride to Rome was an efficient way to see the picturesque Italian countryside. Our luxurious hotel, Umiltá 36, would be our home away from home in the heart of Rome for the next 3 nights, merely a stone’s throw from the iconic Trevi Fountain.
Our Roman itinerary combined history, art, and exclusive experiences. One of the highlights was a private tour of the Vatican. Words can hardly do justice to the wonder of standing beneath Michelangelo’s masterpiece in the Sistine Chapel or standing before La Pieta, a statue of the Virgin Mary holding the lifeless body of her Son, Jesus.
The opulence of St. Peter’s Basilica was rivaled only by our adventure beneath the Roman Colosseum. It is not easy to score tickets to the Underground Colosseum tour, which allows you to see where gladiators and wild animals once roamed.
A day trip outside of Rome to Castel Gandolfo provided a rare chance to wander through the Pope’s summer home, including a peek at the Pontiff’s private prayer room and a tour of the elegant gardens. Then came a unique experience: a cooking class on the property that fostered competition and camaraderie, leaving us well-fed and full of smiles.
These shared moments, cooking, exploring historical landmarks, and reveling in the company of kindred spirits made our journey through Rome truly special. It’s the kind of travel experience that Premiere Luxury Travel strives to craft for our discerning clients—a seamless blend of history, culture, and top-tier indulgence. As we cast coins into the Trevi Fountain, hoping that the legend would ring true, we silently wished to return.
Next week, I will share moments from our beautiful detour into Tuscany and Florence. Until then, ciao!
