Could Scotland Be Our 2027 Adventure?

There are some destinations that are beautiful. And then there are destinations that make you slow down, look around, and wonder why you waited so long to visit.

Scotland has been on my mind for a while now.

Imagine beginning our journey in Glasgow before making our way into the Highlands, where winding roads lead past shimmering lochs, ancient forests, and mountains that seem to disappear into the clouds. Every turn feels like another postcard, and every village has a story to tell.

One afternoon, we’ll step aboard a private boat on Loch Lomond for a leisurely cruise across its peaceful waters while enjoying lunch surrounded by some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery. It’s the kind of afternoon where conversations linger, cameras are forgotten for a while, and you simply soak it all in.

Scotland is a country where traditions are still very much alive, and throughout our journey we’ll experience them firsthand. At one historic estate, we’ll enjoy a private falconry demonstration as these magnificent birds soar overhead before returning effortlessly to their handlers. Later, we’ll gather for a traditional Scottish evening complete with bagpipers, local cuisine, and the warm hospitality the Scots are known for.

Of course, no visit to Scotland would be complete without learning a little about its most famous export. We’ll enjoy a private visit to Glenturret Distillery, the Highlands’ oldest working single malt distillery, where we’ll discover the craftsmanship behind every bottle and, if you choose, sample a dram or two.

As we travel deeper into the Highlands, we’ll pass through Glencoe, one of Scotland’s most breathtaking valleys. The dramatic mountains, sweeping moors, and quiet beauty have inspired countless stories and films, but nothing compares to seeing it in person. It’s one of those places where everyone on the coach instinctively reaches for their camera, only to realize no photo quite captures the scale of what you’re seeing.

We’ll also step back in time at Cawdor Castle, one of Scotland’s most beautifully preserved historic homes. Surrounded by gardens and centuries of history, it’s easy to imagine the generations who once called it home.

​Not every memorable experience involves castles and whisky. One of my favorite moments may very well be spending time at a working farm watching skilled border collies respond to the quiet commands of their shepherd during a traditional sheepdog demonstration. It’s an authentic look at rural Scottish life and a reminder that some traditions endure because they still work beautifully today.

As our journey continues, we’ll arrive in Edinburgh, one of my favorite cities in Europe. The city’s medieval streets, elegant Georgian architecture, cozy pubs, and lively atmosphere make it a wonderful place to explore on foot. We’ll even enjoy a private visit to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the King’s official residence in Scotland when he is in Edinburgh, giving us a glimpse into royal history that few visitors experience in quite the same way.

And then comes the perfect finale.

As evening falls, we’ll make our way to Edinburgh Castle for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Set against the castle walls, the performance combines massed pipes and drums, military bands from around the world, Highland dancers, and spectacular pageantry into an unforgettable evening. It’s one of those experiences that’s difficult to describe until you’ve been there, surrounded by music, history, and thousands of people sharing the same sense of awe.

Like all of my hosted journeys, this wouldn’t be about rushing from one attraction to the next. We’d travel with a small group, enjoy wonderful meals together, stay in exceptional accommodations, and have time to appreciate the places we visit instead of simply checking them off a list.

Scotland offers history, scenery, wonderful food and whisky, warm hospitality, and experiences you simply can’t recreate anywhere else.
