Girlfriends Getaways: Better Than Therapy?

One of the fastest-growing travel trends is the “Girlfriend Getaway,” and it is easy to understand why, especially after the last year and a half! After dealing with all the trials of everyday life, there is nothing quite as fun and relaxing as “getting away from it all” with your best friends. They allow (and even encourage) you to totally be yourself without fear of judgment. Of course, the same goes for men (golf or fishing trip, anyone?), even though they may not admit it. A few days away with the guys on the golf course can be more effective than weeks of professional therapy!

1. How about a little retail therapy?

For women who love to shop, why not combine a weekend in the “big city” with great shopping, dining, and entertainment options? New York City and Chicago are great choices. Still, there are many amazing centrally-located options that are served by convenient airports, like Nashville. 

2. Why not check in to a Spa or Yoga retreat for a wellness weekend?

A little pampering goes a long way. Who knows? You might even come home with some new healthy habits and feel a couple of pounds lighter!  There are fabulous wellness spas in Arizona and yoga retreats on the Baja Peninsula where you will be pampered silly.

3. You know the old saying, “What happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas?”

Besides gambling, Las Vegas offers fantastic dining, shopping, and live entertainment, and most resorts have completely gorgeous pools and spas! This destination works well for both girls’ and guys’ getaways.

4. Sip and eat your way through Wine Country!

This is actually my specialty! In fact, I just planned the ULTIMATE wine tasting experience for a group of girlfriends in Napa Valley that will happen next month. A few days of wine tasting or a culinary boot camp can be fantastic options for girlfriend getaways! Because wine and delectable food are ALWAYS a good combination! 

5. A sports-related trip

This is a great option for both girls and guys too! How about a fitness retreat for those who love to exercise? Or a golf weekend at a luxurious resort with daily tee times? Or a scuba diving/snorkeling trip on a Caribbean island?

6. All-Inclusive Resorts and Cruises

These are natural fits for this style of travel. Your most important decision might be whether to order champagne or a martini or sit by the pool or on the beach. Who wouldn’t welcome some “down time?”
