I’m Going Back to Scotland for the Tattoo. Want to Come?

Scotland has been calling me back since 2013, when my former life as a film producer took me there to scout locations for a romantic comedy. I was taken with its misty Highlands, ancient castles, proud character, and slightly cheeky sense of humor. Perhaps my Scottish heritage played a part, but from the moment I arrived in Edinburgh, it felt both new and strangely familiar.

Next August, I am finally going back. And this time, I am inviting you to come with me!

Why this departure; why now?

From August 9–17, 2027, I will host a small group on Tauck’s A Week in… Scotland. It is the kind of journey I have recommended to clients for years: thoughtfully planned, beautifully executed, and filled with experiences that would be difficult to arrange independently.

But one inclusion made this particular departure the clear choice for me: the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Only select Tauck departures include the Tattoo, and ours is one of them.

About that Tattoo

Every August, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo brings military bands and cultural performers from around the world to the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. Music, ceremony, theatre and precision unfold against the illuminated castle, creating an evening unlike anything else in Scotland.

If you have watched the pipes and drums march across your television screen and thought, “Someday,” this may be your day.

Having the performance included in our itinerary is the reason I chose this exact week to return. We will be in Edinburgh during one of its most celebrated annual events, with our arrangements already handled.

Why I chose Tauck

Scotland is certainly a destination you can visit independently, but there is a considerable difference between getting from place to place and experiencing the country well.

I have recommended Tauck to clients for years, so this was not a difficult decision. Tauck has been designing guided journeys for more than a century. On this journey, we will follow Tauck’s Yellow Roads, traveling beyond the main highways and into the Scottish Highlands. We will pass through Glencoe, with its moors, forests and mountains, and visit places closely tied to Scotland’s history and traditions.

I am often asked whether joining a group means giving something up. On this trip, it’s the opposite. Traveling together is exactly what makes the Tattoo tickets and the private access possible in the first place. More of us going means better access for everyone, not less room to enjoy it.

I will be traveling with the group throughout the journey, sharing the meals, experiences and stories that inevitably become part of traveling together. You will have the benefits of a carefully managed Tauck itinerary, along with the added comfort of traveling with an advisor you already know.

My husband, Jeff, will also be joining us. As a photographer, he will capture special moments throughout the week and share those photographs with the group afterward.

This is more than booking a tour

There is something else I value about traveling with a small group of like-minded people. Conversations continue over dinner. Someone notices a detail you missed. By the end of the week, there are shared stories and private jokes that no itinerary could have planned.  And the bonus is you often end up with lifelong friends from the shared experience.

The space is filling up

The group is capped at 24 travelers, so it is large enough to make special access possible while still feeling personal. As of today, only 12 of those spots are still available.

I’m not going to manufacture urgency that isn’t real, but this part is: once the group is full, it’s full, and there isn’t a way to add a 25th seat.
