Last week, I wrote about my recent experience traveling to Los Cabos, Mexico, and reviewed the adults-only all-inclusive LeBlanc Spa Resort. This was my first trip outside of the United States since before the pandemic.
While I was there, I had the pleasure of doing site inspections at some of the most luxurious resorts in Cabo, starting with Las Ventanas al Paraiso (a Rosewood Resort). This family- and pet-friendly property really exudes “authentic Mexico” and sets the standard for luxury here. Like other resorts in Cabo, all visitors have to walk across a mat to disinfect their shoes before entering the resort. COVID-19 protocols are in place, which means face coverings had to be worn in public areas, and hand-sanitizer is handed out at every turn.
The resort has 84 enormous suites and villas (ranging from 960 square feet Junior Suites to 5,000 square feet Villas), all with butler service and telescopes for whale watching and stargazing. Entry-level Junior suites have a beautiful garden view, but can be upgraded to oceanfront, and many rooms have private rooftop terraces and outdoor Jacuzzis.
The resort’s five distinct restaurants include Asian-influenced Arbol, authentic Mexican at El Restaurante, Sea Grill fresh seafood near the pool, savory street tacos at Taqueria, and an authentic and fresh ceviche experience at the Tequila & Ceviche Bar (boasting 250 tequilas with Mezcal and Tequila lessons available). My favorite was La Botica, a speakeasy bar with evening entertainment (a secret button lets you in, like in the 20s during prohibition) – how fun! Suite service is also available 24/7.
Activities abound with nearby world-class golf (Cabo Real, a Robert Trent Jones course), an acclaimed spa, deep-sea fishing, water sports, and more. Every Saturday, there is a mini-golf tournament. Festive season stays include a big party – the resort is elaborately decorated to look like Cuba with a Cuban singer entertaining the guests.
Las Ventanas’ beach is not swimmable, as are most beaches on that stretch of shoreline. The undertow is just too strong. The best way to enjoy hanging out at the beach here is to reserve a Cabana with a private jacuzzi for $300/day. They are spacious and luxurious – an incredibly beautiful place to spend the day. Pampering Pool Butlers take care of guests’ every need at the legendary Infinity Pool.
The Spa at Las Ventanas is known as one of the world’s top spas. It features exquisite indoor-outdoor treatment rooms, couples massage suites, a serene solarium, and a full-service beauty salon. Guests can also enjoy spa treatments in their suite or at the ocean’s edge in the private Spa pavilion on the beach. Active guests can take advantage of the state-of-the-art fitness center and two tennis courts.
Most people assume all Mexican resorts are “all-inclusive,” but you might be surprised to know that many higher-end properties are on the “European plan” which means you pay for each meal as you go. Well, Las Ventanas is no exception. They are EP but offer a meal plan for an extra charge. As a Virtuoso property, my affiliation would get you additional perks and amenities here, such as free breakfast for two (per bedroom), Complimentary Wi-Fi, early check-in/late check-out, room upgrade (upon availability), $100 Spa credit, and Oasis Margarita & Taco Sampler Experience from Taqueria.
Next week’s blog will feature my review of another Virtuoso resort, the family-friendly all-inclusive Grand Velas!
